Electrical Design

This publication explains how to identify potential problem areas and provides design guidelines which help to achieve resilient power systems that are largely immune to both supply and installation problems. It also describes how and why harmonics are generated, how they affect the electrical system and equipment and how these effects may be minimised.

Modern electronic equipment not only generate harmonics into the supply system but also produce high earth leakage current that causes nuisance tripping as well as interference problems. This publication examines these problems in detail and indicates how a well-designed earthing system is essential for safe and reliable functioning of modern electronic equipment.
