Managing problems in earthing affecting critical equipment - By addressing UPS Installation / Floating neutral

ABSTRACT

Out of various power quality parameters like harmonics, flicker, transients, voltage sags and swells, earthing is one of the critical aspect that needs to be addressed in correct manner. When it comes to proper functioning of critical equipments, earthing becomes vital ingredient. In addition to earthing of equipments, earthing of neutral also plays very important role in safety of the personnel and equipment.

Neutral also plays very important role in safety of personnel and equipments. A disconnected or floating neutral can cause catastrophic incidents particularly in single phase loads. Typically in an industry critical single phase loads are connected through an UPS system. An UPS is provided in the system for reliable and quality power supply to the critical equipment. If installed UPS in not earthed properly, then it can cause damage to loads connected through the UPS.
